Intermediate I Teaching Standards

  • Teacher: An active Level 2 Swim Teacher may conduct the Intermediate I program. The Teacher is to directly supervise, visually observe and evaluate all required knowledge and skills for Intermediate I.
  • Content: The knowledge and skills covered during the Intermediate I program are those provided in the SSI Level 2 Swim Teacher Trainer Manual and Level 2 Swim Teacher Manual, and the SSI Gold Script In-Water Lesson Plans.
  • Sessions: The number of classes are set by the individual Teacher.
  • Intent: The intent of the Intermediate I program is to build on beginning swimming skills and develop competitive swimming strokes.
  • Program Duration: The recommended program hours for Intermediate I are based on student needs and ability.
  • Minimum Age: The minimum age for Intermediate I classes is 5 years old.
  • Maximum Age: Participants in the Intermediate I program can be no older than 17 years old.
  • Ratio: The student-to-Teacher ratio for Intermediate I is 4 to 1.
  • Supervision: During the Intermediate I program, students can be in the direct or indirect supervision of a Level 2 Swim Teacher, allowing for both in-water direct instruction or coaching from the pool deck at the discretion of the Teacher.

Intermediate II Teaching Standards

  • Teacher: An active Level 2 Swim Teacher may conduct the Intermediate II program. The Teacher is to directly supervise, visually observe and evaluate all required knowledge and skills for Intermediate II.

  • Content: The knowledge and skills covered during the Junior Olympian program are those provided in the SSI Level 2 Swim Teacher Trainer Manual and Level 2 Swim Teacher Manual, and the SSI Gold Script In-Water Lesson Plans.
  • Sessions: The number of classes are set by the individual Teacher.
  • Intent: The intent of the Junior Olympian program is to build on advanced swimming skills and develop competitive swimming strokes, as well as developing strength and endurance.
  • Program Duration: The recommended program hours for Junior Olympian are based on student needs and ability.
  • Minimum Age: The minimum age for Junior Olympian classes is 6 years old.
  • Maximum Age: Participants in the Junior Olympian program can be no older than 17 years old.
  • Ratio: The maximum student-to-Teacher ratio for Junior Olympian is 10 to 1.
  • Supervision: During the Junior Olympian program, students are to remain under the indirect supervision of a Level 2 Swim Teacher.
