Aquatike I Teaching Standards

  • Teacher: An active Level 1 Swim Teacher may conduct the Aquatike I program. The Teacher is to directly supervise, visually observe and evaluate all required knowledge and skills for Aquatike I.
  • Content: The knowledge and skills covered during the Aquatike I program are those provided in the SSI Level 1 Swim Teacher Trainer Manual and Level 1 Swim Teacher Manual, and the SSI Gold Script In-Water Lesson Plans.
  • Sessions: The number of classes are set by the individual Teacher.
  • Intent: The intent of the Aquatike I program is to teach young students comfort and safety in and around the water and develop forward movement through the water using both the arms and legs.
  • Program Duration: The recommended program hours for Aquatike I are based on student needs and ability.
  • Minimum Age: The minimum age for Aquatike I classes is 36 months old.
  • Maximum Age: Participants in the Aquatike I program can be no older than 48 months old.
  • Ratio: The student-to-Teacher ratio for Aquatike I is 4 to 1.
  • Supervision: During the Aquatike I program, students are to remain under the direct supervision of a Level 1 Swim Teacher.
