Baby and Me Teaching Standards

Baby And Me Teaching Standards

  • Teacher: An active Baby And Me Teacher may conduct the Baby And Me program. The Teacher is to directly supervise, visually observe and evaluate all required knowledge and skills for Baby And Me.
  • Content: The knowledge and skills covered during the Baby And Me program are those provided in the SSI Baby And Me Swim Teacher Trainer Manual and Baby And Me Swim Teacher Manual, and the SSI Gold Script In-Water Lesson Plans.
  • Sessions: The number of classes are set by the individual Teacher.
  • Intent: The intent of the Baby And Me program is to teach very young students comfort and safety in and around the water while in the direct care and supervision of their parent or guardian. Additionally the program intends to teach the parent or guardian ways of interacting with their children in an aquatic environment.
  • Program Duration: The recommended program hours for Baby And Me are based on student needs and ability.
  • Minimum Age: The minimum age for Baby And Me classes is 6 months old.
  • Maximum Age: Participants in the Baby And Me program can be no older than 36 months old.
  • Ratio: The student-to-Teacher ratio for Baby And Me is 6 to 1. A parent or guardian is required in-water with each student. See Supervision.
  • Supervision: During the Baby And Me program, students are to remain under the indirect supervision of a Baby And Me Swim Teacher as well as direct supervision of a parent or guardian.


Aquababy Teaching Standards

  • Teacher: An active Baby & Me Teacher may conduct the Aquababy program. The Teacher is to directly supervise, visually observe and evaluate all required knowledge and skills for Aquababy.
  • Content: The knowledge and skills covered during the Aquababy program are those provided in the SSI Baby & Me Swim Teacher Trainer Manual and Baby & Me Swim Teacher Manual, and the SSI Gold Script In-Water Lesson Plans.
  • Sessions: The number of classes are set by the individual Teacher.
  • Intent: The intent of the Aquababy program is to teach very young students comfort and safety in and around the water while in the indirect supervision of their parent or guardian. Additionally the program intends to teach the parent or guardian ways of interacting with their children in an aquatic environment.
  • Program Duration: The recommended program hours for Aquababy are based on student needs and ability.
  • Minimum Age: The minimum age for Aquababy classes is 24 months old.
  • Maximum Age: Participants in the Aquababy program can be no older than 36 months old.
  • Ratio: The student-to-Teacher ratio for Aquababy is 4 to 1. A parent or guardian is required on the pool deck with each student. See Supervision.
  • Supervision: During the Aquababy program, students are to remain under the direct supervision of a Aquababy Swim Teacher as well as indirect supervision of a parent or guardian.
